ABSTRACT

The project Biomedical Monitoring System describes the design of a simple, low-cost PIC microcontroller based temperature and heart rate measuring device with LCD output. The temperature is measured using a temperature sensor LM35 and heart rate  is measured from the finger using a heart beat sensor and the rate is then averaged and displayed on LCD and sent to the computer.
The conventional methods to monitor the heartbeat has number of issues to deal with. In this project, a generic real-time wired communication system has been designed and developed for short and long term remote patient-monitoring applying wired protocol. The primary function of this system is to monitor the temperature and heart beat of the patient and the data collected by the sensors are sent to the microcontroller. The data is  displayed over the LCD display The microcontroller transmits the data through a serial data cable via UART. If there is a dangerous change in patient's status an alarm is also activated.

ABSTRACT

A talking voltmeter is a device that measures the value of voltage and also, as an additional feature, speaks out the value of voltage measured. A device capable of this operation and a “talking” facility is not available at a cheap cost in the market today. This device is capable of measuring a voltage upto 5V with a precision of 0.1V.
The analog input is fed into an ADC. This analog voltage is thus converted to the equivalent digital value. This is then followed by interfacing to a record and playback IC. This IC speaks out the corresponding voltage value along with the unit through the speakers.
